The earth is undergoing major environmental changes in ways that affect societies on a global scale. At a time when science, scientific data, and environmental issues are debated at every level in society, it is crucial to have writers—and teachers—who know how to accurately convey environmental information in engaging ways. In this class, we will read and discuss environmental communication from several perspectives including advocacy and activism, historical references, political debates, and cultural and social connections. We will also discuss effective communication strategies for this kind of writing, and explore activities you can use in your own classrooms as a teacher.
