The main objective of this course is to provide an overview of the 
theoretical foundations of word acquisition, possible ways of teaching 
vocabulary, and assessing its acquisition.
Topics include defining 
vocabulary, acquisition of lexis, and different ways and strategies of 
word processing. Furthermore, we take a look at how to decide which 
words to teach, to which learners, in what way, and how to assess 
(individual) learning processes. 
Students get a chance to try out 
different forms of vocab learning on their own and will have the chance 
to discuss their experience in class.
The application of new 
technologies (e.g. smart phones, online corpora, tablets) in L2 
vocabulary acquisition will be discussed, too.
