The course will consider the role of new media, i.e. especially
telecollaboration, within the teaching of Intercultural Communicative
Competence (ICC) and its importance for Foreign Language Learning and
Teaching. Starting with an introduction to ICC and telecollaboration, we
will try to look at what teachers need in order to make use of these
methodologies in their own classrooms. This will lead on to a hands-on
experience of a telecollaborative ICC project. In a joint online
endeavour with Dr. Tina Waldman and Dr. Efrat Harel from the Kibbutzim
College of Education in Tel Aviv and their class of future English
teachers in Israel we make use of what is often called experiential
learning in pedagogy. Together with students from Kibbutzim College you
will deal with a current issue in language teaching, find common ground
on its theoretical and practical aspects and present it to both groups.
Students have to attend to different tasks and present their results in
class.
