This course addresses questions of the relationship between language and interaction in the foreign language classroom and its relevance for the process of language learning. It will cover issues like prominent theories of SLA/FL language learning, the role of interaction in these theories, appropriate research methods for studying interaction, relevant findings from different studies or their consequences for teachers and learners in the FL classroom. A considerable part of the seminar will be devoted to dealing with authentic material from the language classroom and different ways of analysing such data.  Students therefore will be expected to become active participants all through the course.
