This course will explore the varieties of World English(es) and English as the international form of communication. We will look at the development and current issues of multilingualism, aspects of pragmatics and socio-culture as well as standards and norms in Global English(es). Our discussions will be based on current literature/texts, taking a closer look at the native-speaker ideology and intercultural competences. This shall lead us towards answering the question of educational implications in teaching English.
You will be assigned weekly readings and study questions via Moodle. The seminar will be based on those readings and corresponding discussions.
